Farkus

Rather than discarding alternative rock entirely after its exhaustion in the late 90's and retreating into the restraint of the emerging 60's inspired indie rock scene, Farkus makes a counteroffer by salvaging the raw sincerity of the 90's and balancing it with a splash of 70's classic rock competence. It is a bold attempt at preserving substance and proficiency from the realm of the passé. Their rollicking anthem 'Chance' puts it bluntly, "inspiration is for the amateur." These four native Chicagoans originally collaborated purely for the sake of making music together in the vein of their shared influences such as Tool, Rush, Pearl Jam, and Stone Temple Pilots but soon found themselves crafting a catalog of songs they were willing to take that chance on with their debut 2008 'Thought You Should Know'. As they thrived in the Chicago music scene they further evolved with their more ambitious 'Naked Eye Astronomy' (2012), which covered more ground musically from the heavy progressive rock of 'Ally of the Enemy' and 'Downer' to campfire backdrops like 'Beyond Dreams' and 'This Happens Everyday'. The sophomore album received over 70,000 downloads and lifted the band to the stage of The House of Blues and to a headlining slot at Chicago's Metro. Now that they've hit their stride as a band, Farkus is working on their first full length album, songs of which are already in heavy rotation in their live sets and are among the highlights of an already extensive catalog.
