Dance Tribute to Mark Messing

Dance Tribute is an annual series, in which a collection of songs from a single musician/band/artist are selected and paid tribute to through choreography and live performance.Over 60 Chicago dancers/movers/actors/choreographers are involved with every Tribute. It is a night of dance, happy chums, drinks, grub, laughs, art, and only a few uncomfortable moments. This year's Dance Tribute is especially exciting because it is the first tribute to a local composer; the man himself, the dreamy, McSteamy, Mark Messing!! Who is he?"Mark Messing is a performer, composer, and collaborator in interdisciplinary art groups. He co-founded local band, Mucca Pazza, as well as a number of artist-initiated projects including: The Human Television Network, The All American Anti-War Marching Band, and commercial music and sound design company, Maestro-Matic. He serves as a liaison to the artists, and is the Executive Director of Opera-Matic, NFP, an organization that activates public spaces for community engagement through people-powered sound, story, and interaction. He is a builder of community, an avid bicyclist, and a tremendous advocate for the Chicago neighborhoods. The man shops local people. More about the composer part: he is a music genius. I love the dude, and this Tribute is to say thanks for all of his efforts and excellence."Following every Dance Tribute is the greatest dance party of your life, inspired by the music of the night. This year, we'll have a live band for everyone to bump their booties to.
