Big Black Bird

Big Black Bird is an independent rock band from Chicago, IL. Originally formed by brothers Kevin Bart (guitar), Brian Bart (drummer) and their compatriot Andrew Price (bass) as the Auramatics, the group performed at virtually all of the major venues in Chicago in the late-2000's. During this time, they honed their chops both as musicians and songwriters and grew into one of the best live shows in the city. In 2009, they added guitarist Brian Schnell to the lineup. Shortly thereafter, the band embarked on a birding trip to the Florida everglades where they became captivated by a large ominous black vulture that followed them at every turn through the dense Florida swampland. It was here that they had an epiphany concerning both their musical direction and band name. Under the watchful eye of the vulture, the group was christened Big Black Bird in a ceremony accented by Brian Bart's tribal rhythms. They recorded and released their debut album, 'The Lemon Tree', in late 2011. Led by the singles "An Easy Rule" and "Dumpster", it combines buzzing guitars, a tight rhythm section, and introspective lyrics, all of which combine to captivate the listener from beginning to end. All members of the band contribute to the songwriting, resulting in a dazzling and diverse sonic landscape. Their live shows are filled with rock n roll energy that stays cranked to 11 until the last shred of reverb fades away. The large ominous black vulture is circling. This is not a band to miss. Dive into them before everyone else does so you can say that you loved them first.
