Tributosaurus becomes... Willie Nelson!

This one has been a long, long time coming. Please join us at Martyrs on April 11th and 12th, when we become an absolute icon of American music: Willie NelsonIn 22 years of Tributosaurus, having become more than 130 different artists, we have played a ton of country songs. But aside from becoming Johnny Cash, our country output has usually come as part of the songbook for bands like CSNY, Tom Petty, Elvis Presley, The Eagles, and so many others. Country is a vital part of the fabric of American music, and it has meshed with gospel and rock & roll and soul and jazz to make some of the best art humanity has ever created. No one personifies that more than Willie Nelson. His catalog of more than 350 songs (!!!) has yielded hits in myriad styles, with folk, jazz, pop, and R & B among them. Willie’s bluesy vocal stylings made the Nashville establishment tremble, and the way he fused hippie sensibilities into country was considered career suicide in the 70’s. That era has been rightly recontextualized as visionary. We’ll pull from his songwriting days in the 50’s, which begat “Crazy,” and “Funny How Time Slips Away,”from the initial Nashville era in the 60’s, and from his Austin, Texas period in the 70’s and 80’s when the hippie scene invigorated his music. He became the face of “Outlaw Country,” rebelling against Nashville and forging his own sound, with hits like “Blue Eyes Cryin’ In The Rain,” “Pancho and Lefty,” “On The Road Again,” and “Always On My Mind.” I MEAN COME ON.We won’t ignore his collaborations as part of The Highwaymen, and the duets with so many stars. This will be a celebration of Willie Nelson’s songs and legacy, even as the man continues to thrive at 90. Don’t let anyone tell you marijuana shortens a life span, folks.
