Six Strings of Separation (short film)

Six Strings of Separation tells a story about music, instruments, and the moments that connect us all.  In 1972 a young bass player named Tom Lieber set out from New York City to the Bay Area with the dream of building himself a bass like his hero Jack Cassidy played. He never built that bass for himself. Instead, he went to work for Doug Irwin, famed designer of guitars for Jerry Garcia and found himself a witness to one of the most important moments in rock history. The documentary tells the story of those guitars, Tom's later career as a respected luthier, and how he commemorated the Dead's 50th anniversary in 2015 by building a run of exclusive custom guitars modeled on Jerry's classic axes.
